News from Lusatia - 3

Robert and Gaye Wuchatsch, members of our Society, have received the following interesting email from Alfons Frencl in Bautzen:

Hello, Robert and Gaye
Hope you are well after your trip to Europe and Lusatia (and your animals were after your return still OK, too). It was really nice to meet you again and walk together through Bautzen/Budyšin. About one thing I must just report to you now. Maybe you remember our talk about J.A.Miertsching, an Lusatian Wend from Gröditz, a village not far from Särka, who spend some years as a missionary on Labrador. Later he took part in one of the last great discoveries on our earth. As interpreter for Eskimo-languages was he part of the crew, who crossed for the first time in the history the legendary Northwest-Passage. After our early fellow countryman is named in the polar region of Canada the Miertsching Lake. Just at the same day we sat on the terrace high above the River Spree and spoke about this, reported BBC and the media in Canada (also the biggest magazines and newspapers in Germany) that Canadian archeologists discovered the wreck of "HMS Investigator" near Banks Island. You can in English read more under Google > hms investigator discovery.
Some years ago I followed some points of the journey of HMS Investigator and Miertsching (Tierra del Fuego and Magellan Street/Argentina, Honolulu/Hawaii, Bering Street, then the northernmost point of Alaska, where Miertsching met the first Eskimo and finally Greenland. My impressions are published in Sorbian and in German. In German in the books Alfons Frenzel: Am Horizont die Welt and Alfons Frenzel: Lausitz grenzenlos. (Frenzel is the German version of the Wendish name Frencl). That is what I wanted to share with you just now. I was deeply surprised when I heard about the unexpected discovery in the Northern Polar Sea. Maybe it also could be of interest for the Wendish News of the Wendish Heritage Society Australia. So you can use it for any purpose.
With best regards from Lusatia to you both
Alfons & Ursula
