ResearchMay 03, 2009 Wendish Heritage Society Research All members of the public are invited to do their own research for free at our Wendish Library on the first Sunday of the month from February to November, 1 pm to 5.30 pm at The committee members of the Wendish Society are all honorary researchers - they are volunteers and receive no payment for any research they undertake. For people who can't get to our Library the initial Research is done for free for the hundreds of Members of the Wendish Heritage Society. Requests can be made by email to or by Post to: Wendish Heritage Society For requests from non-members who can't get to our Library we ask for a donation of $30 to the Society for an initial Research report - unless little or nothing is found, then no donation is expected. Memberships of $20 and/or Donations made out to the 'Wendish Heritage Society' can be sent to the Treasurer: Mr Clay Kruger Any requests for extensive research by our honorary Committee Members are open for negotiation if a volunteer can be found from the Committee at that time! For further information please visit our website: www.wendishheritage.org.au *************************************** HOW TO BUY BOOKS ON WENDS IN AUSTRALIA For a detailed and excellent book on the migration of Germans and Wends to Victoria in Australia I'd recommend the following book From Hamburg to Hobsons Bay: German Emigration to Port Phillip (Australia Felix) 1848-51 by Thomas A. Darragh and Robert N. Wuchatsch (1999). Packed with 342 pages of information. You should find copies in your local library. ************************************************************* WENDS TO AUSTRALIA The best reference books on the migration of the Wends to Australia are: Nielsen, In Search of a Home ($48 posted) Burger, The Coming of the Wends ($15 posted) These are available from the Wend Sorb Society of South Australia, 6 Emes Court, Athelstone SA 5076. Please make cheques/money orders payable to the "Wend Sorb Society of SA". Other books and CDs are also available from time to time. The Lutheran Archives (27 Fourth St, Bowden SA 5007; email: lutheran.archives@lca.org.au) contains many church registers, which provide help for people researching family history. There is a research fee. They also have many published family histories of Wendish families. The Archives is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (9.30am-4.30pm). The library collection of the Wend Sorb Society of South Australia is also kept there. |
