August 13, 2010

The Iowa (USA) Wendish Heritage Study Group is conducting a "Worldwide Wendish Workshop" from 13-15 August 2010.

This is now a "past event". The original documentation will be left on the website until a report of the event has been received, and posted in its place.

The program for this event can be downloaded using the link below.

The organisers have also emailed the following additional information for Australian Wends:

Though we are asking for "pre" registration fee and food fee up front ... that would be nearly impossible to do, from out of country ... so I will pay the fee for them, and they could Just register and just pay me back when they get to Iowa ...

Also the event is MUCH longer that the events noted in the schedule here ... this is only what we sent out to our group, and they have been appraised all along about the other events.

Among them there is a preparty on Thursday, August 12 .... night that includes a visit to an old one room school, a country hayride that points out the original farm sites ... and a picnic party at the Schmellick farm, which is a descendant's farm house, and includes viewing his collection of restored farm equipment, and the fields ready for harvest ...

The festivities also go a full week after the event ... and might be of interest to the person thinking of coming ...

Including, Visit to Iowa Living History farms Museum (Monday), the Iowa State Fair (Tuesday), In Fort Madison, Iowa, Thursday (visit the first Fort in Iowa and see demonstrations including cannon firing) ... well, on and on ..., Ride on a Mississippi River boat (how the first Wends arrived here) .......... it goes through the whole week. Who ever is interested can take part in those events as well, if they choose ...

Among others, George Nielsen (Author of "In search of a Home") tells us he plans to attend ...

We would be so pleased to have some one representing Australia! That is really a happy thought!

Thanks! I do hope it will work out!

(I can send a more complete schedule if needed, hotel details, directions, etc ...)
