Dimboola and Jeparit Tour 6-8 March 2010

March 06, 2010

Dimboola in Victoria's Wimmera Region celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2009 and new displays and features were prepared for those celebrating.

Our Society's tour, which will take place from Saturday 6 March at 12 noon to Monday 8 March 2010, will include inspections of Dimboola's displays, as well as a visit to Jeparit's Pioneer Museum and Robert Menzies' memorials and to the remains of the Moravian Mission at Antwerp.

This tour is organized by the Wendish Heritage Society but it warmly welcomes members of other like-minded historical societies such as FoLAV and Aki to join in and to see first-hand the locations, restorations and displays relating to some of Victoria's early settlements and missions.

The proposed itinerary, set out below, is yet to be confirmed, and is subject to change:

Sat. 6th March: Meet at Robert Menzies Memorial in the main street of Jeparit at 12.30 pm for a BYO picnic lunch.
Visit Jeparit's Pioneer Museum.
Visit Ebenezer Aboriginal Mission Station at Antwerp in late afternoon.
Evening Dinner at the Riverside Host Farm, cost about $30 for set meal. Guest speaker: President of Dimboola Historical Society to do the power-point presentation which he did for their recent 150th - outlining the history of the district during the past 150 years.

Sun.7th March: Opportunity to attend church service (led by Colin Huf) at either Dimboola or Katyil and to visit the Dimboola Cemetery and/or the Katyil cemeteries.
Lunch at the Victoria Hotel Dimboola or the Dimboola Cafe.
Visit the Old Courthouse Museum, 67 Lloyd St, Dimboola (cost $5) and the Dimboola Banner Print Museum (cost $4) for a guided tour.
Evening meal at the Victoria Hotel? ( with a presentation?)

Mon. 8th March: Morning visit to Glenwillan Homestead 22 kms from Dimboola on the Borung Highway (Cnr Borung Highway & Blue Ribbon Nth Road, Wallup). It is a delightful homestead set in peaceful and private surrounds, built in 1912 and is a gracious, double brick (55 square) homestead situated in 10 hectares of native timber. It is supposed to have one of the largest thatched barns in the district. They do a Devonshire tea for groups.
